Teen Loses Legs, Gains a Mission

CNN recently profiled a double amputee named Jordan Thomas who was the victim of a tragic boat propeller accident. Since then, Jordan and his family have created a foundation that helps amputee children pay for the prosthetic devices that insurance currently won’t cover. Watch it here:

He has also appear before Congress to speak in support of the Prosthetic and Custom Orthotic Parity Act of 2009, which would require private insurance companies to pay for prosthetic devices and custom orthotic devices at the same level at which they would cover other medical treatments. Insurers could not impose a lifetime limit on prosthetic or orthotic benefits.

Obviously, stories like Jordan’s are uplifting and demonstrate the importance of change the laws that cover custom orthotics and prosthetics. We’ll be keeping a close watch on this bill. And so can you.
